President Tim Conway set up a meeting with City Manager Tom Ourada. We have one of the darkest outfields around and we have absolutely got to start replacing our 40 yr old lights with LEDS.
Ourada was concerned about spending money on Thom Stallard when the city is moving in the direction of building a new ball complex.
Conway assured him lights can be moved and remounted so Ourada gave him grant papers to apply for a grant to get started.
We struggle with our flag pole. The city will stand the cost of both a new flag and pole plus a solar security light mounted to the score board so a light will shine on the flag night or day meaning it does not have to be taken up or down.
Of necessity the pole will have an internal cranking system which can be locked to avoid vandalism. Conway has the system scoped out.
He has meetings set up with the guy who put up the lights on the softball field at the high school and a company rep about a speaker system.
He talked with both gentlemen about replacing the red lights in the scoreboard with white so its easier to read.
All Crete Baseball American Legion Board meetings are open to the public. They are held monthly the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. typically in the backroom of the Eagles.
If you wish to present a topic for discussion, you need to get on the agenda. Call or text (402)826-0345.
This will be the 25th consecutive year of our annual Big Blue River Thom Stallard Seniors Tournament. Brenda Carnes and Amy Vertin, classmates of Thom's, have agreed to chair the committee for the celebration. Preliminary work has begun.
Things discussed so far (but don't hold us to these) include a banner on Main Street, a program, kids' prizes and/or activities, having any athlete, coach, umpire, or board member involved in the tournament taking the field before the championship, special t shirts.
If you feel so inclined to help in some large or small way, let the Board know.
Registration for Junior and Senior teams will be available shortly.
